What to expect on your first TNG meeting

Running a business can be a lonely road. Many owners find themselves working in isolation, wondering if there’s an easier way to grow.

The truth is, business doesn’t have to be done alone.

When you step into a supportive networking group, you’ll find connection, encouragement, and a community of people who genuinely want to see you succeed.

If you’re thinking about visiting a TNG meeting but feel a little unsure of what to expect, here’s a clear guide to how our meetings work, and why they might be the fresh start your business needs.

Visiting for the first time

Most people come to their first TNG meeting as a visitor.

(You can see our meeting locations and book your visit from this link TNG Groups)

You’re welcome to attend up to two meetings before deciding if membership is right for you. This gives you time to get a feel for the group, meet people, and see how we do things.

Our meetings are fortnightly, and each group allows just one business per profession. That way, you know you’ll never be competing with someone in the same industry for referrals.

If your industry spot is already taken, we’ll help you find another local or online group with an opening.

The flow of a typical TNG meeting

Here’s what happens at a standard TNG meeting:

1. Welcome and introductions

The group leader will kick things off with a warm welcome. Visitors are introduced to the room so everyone knows who’s joining. Make sure you arrive in time to grab a drink. We’ll have a name tag waiting for you - everyone’ll be wearing them so it’ll be easy to get to know each other.

2. The 60-second introductions

Each member gets one minute to introduce themselves and their business. This is a great way to practise your elevator pitch in a safe, supportive environment. (We’ve got a whole blog on how to make the most of your 60 seconds. You can read it here.)

3. The 10-minute presentation

At every meeting, one member has the chance to share more in-depth details about their business. This rotates so everyone eventually gets a turn. It’s an opportunity to dive deeper and show others what you do best. (You can also read our blog on 10-minute presentations here.)

4. Open networking time

Finally, there’s plenty of time for conversation. This isn’t about a hard sell, it’s about building relationships and having real chats. The more you connect, the more naturally referrals and opportunities flow.

Why networking works

Networking works best when people know, like, and trust you.

That doesn’t happen overnight, but at TNG, you’ll find an environment where genuine conversations and trust can grow.

Over time, members become some of your strongest advocates, promoting you to their own networks through word of mouth.

And that’s the magic of TNG: you’re not just showing up for yourself, you’re gaining a group of people who will share your story and help your business reach further than it could alone.

The benefits of becoming a member

Membership gives you far more than just a seat at the table:

  • Fortnightly in-person or online meetings – build strong, trusted relationships with business owners in your local area, or join an online group if that suits you better.

  • A New Zealand-wide network – with groups across the country (and more being added all the time), you’re instantly connected to a growing network of professionals.

  • Access to online webinars – keep learning and sharpening your business skills with exclusive online sessions.

  • Real word-of-mouth promotion – the stronger your connections, the more members become advocates for your business, sharing what you do with their own networks.

  • A supportive environment to grow – whether you want to practise your pitch, build your confidence, or simply be around like-minded people, you’ll find a safe, encouraging space to do it.

What happens after you’ve visited

So, you’ve come along as a visitor (maybe twice), met some great people, and experienced how a TNG meeting flows. What’s next?

If you’ve enjoyed your visits and can see the value of being part of the group, the next step is to join as a member.

How to join

Joining is simple:

  1. Check your category is available – because we only allow one business per profession in each group, you’ll need to confirm your industry spot is open.

  2. Get in touch  – our team will guide you through the process.

  3. Commit to showing up – meetings are fortnightly, and your success comes from being present and engaged.

Why membership matters

Visiting gives you a taste of the TNG culture, but membership is where the real growth happens.

The consistency of fortnightly meetings, the deeper connections you build, and the opportunities to keep learning and expanding your reach all add up to real, measurable business growth.

By joining, you’re not just attending meetings, you’re joining a community that’s invested in your success.
