Chiropractic is a health care discipline and profession that emphasizes diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine, with the knowledge that these disorders affect general health via the nervous system.
Chiropractic treats most often spine and neuro-musculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, and pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches. However; when other medical conditions exist, Chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition.
Several movable segments called vertebrae make the Spine and each vertebra is related with one above and one below. If this relationship is not right, that may interfere with the information passing through the nerves therefore, if the Nerve System is being interfered, the body functions or your health may not be as optimum it could be.
The most common therapeutic procedure performed by Chiropractors is called “chiropractic adjustment”, but often people refer to it as “spinal manipulation”. The purpose of the adjustment is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into the joint that has become restricted causing pain or less functionality.
Chiropractic assess each case individually and performs a thorough clinical examination to determine when chiropractic treatment is appropriate or when it is not appropriate or readily refer patients to the appropriate health care provider when the condition warrants co-management in conjunction with other member of the health care team.
